IHC Taskforce to support the Year of Zayed; NRS International presents member-driven initiative
NRS Relief, a proud member of the International Humanitarian City (IHC), presented on behalf of the IHC Taskforce a member-driven initiative to promote the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, through a humanitarian lens.
The proposed campaign also aims to reinforce the spirit of humanitarianism in the UAE and strengthen existing partnerships and leverage the joint humanitarian expertise.
The IHC Taskforce is comprised of IHC members representing UN agencies, international NGOs, inter-governmental organizations and private sector suppliers to the humanitarian community (of which NRS Relief represents). IHC, the only non-profit, independent, humanitarian free-zone authority in the UAE, is part of the local community.

“This collaborative approach ensures a strong presentation of the IHC family, because together we are stronger,” said Wieke de Vries, Senior Marketing & Communications Manager at NRS Relief, during her presentation at the IHC on 22 February. The meeting was attended by none other than Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Chairperson of IHC and the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai.
“The legacy campaign also guarantees the collective support from the humanitarian community towards the Year of Zayed,” de Vries added.
Supporting the Year of Zayed
“Humanitarian work is the duty of every human being, of every individual of humanity.”
– Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, who passed away in 2004. To commemorate this historic national occasion, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has declared that 2018 will officially be known in the emirates as the Year of Zayed (YoZ).
The YoZ initiative aims to:
- Educate and create greater awareness of the life and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed among local, regional and international audiences.
- Raise the profile of the late Sheikh Zayed to that of one of the world’s greatest leaders and most inspirational figures.
- Reinforce the status of the late Sheikh Zayed as an eternal source of national pride and a powerful symbol of the UAE around the world.
- Commemorate and honor the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed through projects and initiatives that are consistent with his vision and values.
Inspiring youth to continue the humanitarian legacy
Under the proposed initiative, the IHC Taskforce is seeking to launch a mobile exhibition that will travel through the seven emirates to engage the hearts and minds of youth and to inspire the future generation to continue Sheikh Zayed’s humanitarian legacy.
The mobile installation, in which the exhibition will be hosted, is a fitted cargo container. The container is a symbol for the humanitarian support and will serve as an interactive educational space with displays, multimedia installations and photography. The so-called ‘container for humanity’ will feature and represent the activities of IHC and its members, linked to the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed.
Showcasing the humanitarian side of Dubai, IHC, the world’s largest humanitarian logistics hub, offers emergency aid across the globe. From food, shelter items and medication and many more – everything that is needed for emergency response is housed at the IHC.
