NRS International and AidEx launch second edition of the Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award
NRS International is pleased to announce that the 2016 edition of the Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award, in partnership with AidEx, the leading forum for the international aid and development community, is now open for submissions and nominations.
Launched last year, this award celebrates the best of humanitarianand development reporting and photojournalism. In 2015, the winners of the award were Holly Young, from The Guardian’s Global Development Professionals Network (for reporting) and Victor Lacken, of Lensman Media Services (for photojournalism). Other finalists in both categories included individuals from IRIN, Plan International, EurActiv, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation. Learn more about last year’s finalists and winners here.
Speaking about his win, Victor Lacken noted that it has “motivated me to seek new challenges in photojournalism and I expect it will inspire other photographers to tell their stories.” Holly Young said winning the reporting award has “given me more confidence to pursue stories that I really believe in”.
The award will be conferred in-person at the AidEx Brussels exhibition and conference on 17 November 2016 and will recognise exceptional work in the following two categories:
- Photojournalism: for a photograph or set of photographs published in 2015, portraying the work of international aid organisations or NGOs, or the situation of those in need of humanitarian aid or development assistance.
- Reporting: for print, radio, broadcast or digital reporting published in 2015. This should have investigated humanitarian and development issues; recognised unsung heroes in the sector; highlighted the plight of affected communities; or encouraged greater understanding of humanitarian and development work.
Nominations for the Award will be judged by an independent panel of experts and by an online public vote. One winner will be selected from each category to receive a trophy and cash prize of EUR2,500, conferred in person at AidEx in Brussels on 17 November 2016.
