Ebola outbreak declared global health emergency by WHO
NRS Relief’s LegendMEDI tent offers innovative medical solutions in treating patients
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo a “public health emergency of international concern.” The declaration followed a meeting of the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee for the Ebola virus disease in the DRC. Since the first confirmed case in Goma on 1 August 2018, the outbreak has been classified as a level 3 emergency by WHO, triggering the highest level of mobilization.
In a statement released on WHO’s website, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:
“It is time for the world to take notice and redouble our efforts. We need to work together in solidarity with the DRC to end this outbreak and build a better health system. Extraordinary work has been done for almost a year under the most difficult circumstances. We all owe it to these responders — coming from not just WHO but also government, partners and communities — to shoulder more of the burden.”
According to news reports, “the WHO and its partners in the containment effort have struggled to stop the outbreak”, with more than 2,500 cases and close to 1,700 deaths on record so far.

NRS Relief’s LegendMEDI tent offers treatment solutions
As a responsible relief supplier that is committed to creating products with a purpose, NRS Relief offers its latest breakthrough product for the humanitarian and healthcare community – the LegendMEDI medical tent.
Developed in response to the first Ebola outbreak in 2014, which claimed over 11,000 lives, this tent answers to the specific challenges when treating hemorrhagic fever patients. It offers separate, easy-to-disinfect treatment and isolation rooms for both suspected and confirmed patients. The individual cabins for suspected patients prevent cross-contamination between infected and healthy patients. The medical tent is constructed in a way no (infected) material can accumulate on the surface of the tent, in seams or other parts.
LegendMEDI cabin configurations
The tent’s 30-sqm floor space can accommodate up to four patients and can be attached to one another to make a longer structure.
Designed for easy operation
LegendMEDI is designed to allow freedom of movement and easy operation like opening and closing of the doors with magnetic closures, wearing protective clothing. The special treatment cabins and other accessories are made of PVC coated polyester or polyethylene tarpaulin with non-corrosive accessories, whereby all seams and attachment points which might get in touch with patients, are heat or HF welded.
All tent components can be disinfected with chlorine-based disinfectants or other commonly used detergents. Furthermore, it can be erected on various soil conditions and in different climate conditions, from moderate to tropical.
Lighting kit accessories available
In order to allow critical mission operations to continue after dark, NRS Relief offers its lighting system to brightly light up multipurpose tents such as the LegendMEDI. The electrical lighting kit is a cost-effective, high output tube lighting system that can be daisy chained up to 10 lights long. It is suitable to be used in all of NRS Relief’s multipurpose shelters and is designed specifically for rapid deployment and dismantling in emergency scenarios.
