2024: The Power of Collaboration
In a world where humanitarian needs are becoming more complex and urgent, no single organisation can meet these challenges alone. The 2024 Communication on Progress report from NRS Relief conveys a clear message: collaboration is not just a strategy—it is the driving force behind meaningful and scalable impact.
This year, NRS Relief’s work was guided by a shared purpose. From conflict zones in Gaza and Sudan to innovation hubs in Dubai and Accra, our products were used across disciplines, sectors, and borders. Whether it was designing low-emission shelters, engaging students in rethinking sustainable packaging, or responding quickly to unfolding crises, every accomplishment in 2024 was made possible through the strength of collective action. That spirit of collaboration is woven throughout the report. Rooted in the UN Global Compact’s 10 Principles, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, and informed by GRI Standards, the report reflects input from employees, partners, and communities. Each section begins by mapping these global frameworks and continues with detailed appendices, underscoring a commitment to transparency at every level.
The report begins with a focus on People—on inclusive leadership, ethical labour practices, and respect for human rights. With a governance structure composed of 60% women leaders and diverse, cross-generational representation, NRS Relief is building a future-focused organisation grounded in accountability. We maintain zero-tolerance policies against forced and child labour while actively promoting gender equity, living wages, and worker wellbeing. Ethics are not abstract ideals—they are built into every part of how we work, from procurement to recruitment, data protection to anti-corruption measures.
From there, the focus shifts to Product. Innovation and circularity guide every stage of product development. In 2024, we launched the Viva Eco Tent at AidEx Geneva, the first shelter in our portfolio fully designed with eco-principles in mind. It is made with 15% post-consumer recycled content, emits 40% less CO₂ than its predecessor, and is built to be repaired and reused. Our approach to packaging also evolved: lighter, reusable, and transport-optimised solutions reduced both waste and emissions throughout our supply chain. By collaborating with Heriot-Watt University students, we proved that when young voices are included, sustainable design becomes even more impactful.
The story culminates in Planet, where sustainability comes to life in both factory and office settings. At HSNDS in Lahore, our newly completed installation of solar panels and adoption of energy-efficient systems is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 10% per year, while also delivering significant reductions in water consumption and waste. Furthermore, 600 native trees were planted to restore biodiversity and absorb 12.6 tons of CO₂ annually. Even in tackling Scope 3 emissions (particularly those upstream in our supply chain), we have found meaningful opportunities to drive change. By designing lower-carbon, recyclable products, we are helping our humanitarian partners reduce their environmental footprint while advancing shared climate goals. At our Dubai headquarters, employee-led initiatives like the Green Team continued to embed sustainability into daily operations, from remote working policies to responsible waste management and data-driven environmental awareness campaigns.
These are not isolated initiatives—they are part of a systems approach that treats climate action, ethical sourcing, and human dignity as interconnected priorities. What emerges from the 2024 report is not just a record of progress, but a call to action. A call for deeper partnerships. A call to innovate without compromise. A call to show that doing good and doing right are not mutually exclusive.
In 2024, NRS Relief proved that collaboration is not just powerful—it is essential. As the humanitarian sector charts a course toward a more resilient and climate-conscious future, our story stands as both a blueprint and an invitation to do more, together.
