Evolution: NRS Relief’s 2023 Communication on Progress Report
Fostering Sustainability and Innovation in Humanitarian Solutions
In 2023, NRS Relief experienced a pivotal year marked by significant advancements in sustainability, reflecting our evolution alongside the industry and the dynamic demands of our clients.
Declared the “Year of Sustainability” in the United Arab Emirates, 2023 witnessed our active participation in key global sustainability forums and the launch of an innovative, eco-friendly product line. Our Communication on Progress (COP) report, aptly named “Evolution,” recently published on the United Nations Global Compact website, highlights key aspects of our progress.
Over the last year, we conducted comprehensive evaluations of our products, priorities, and operations, as demonstrated by a newly launched materiality assessment and Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of our core relief items. These studies laid the groundwork for new innovations, guiding us toward the development of products that are both environmentally responsible and tailored to the evolving needs of our customers and the planet.
Building on the insights gained from these assessments, our journey of evolution and collaboration was showcased at COP28 and in a series of events hosted by Dubai Humanitarian. Notably, “The Sustainable Supply Chain Conference” was a landmark event that brought together stakeholders and experts from diverse sectors to underscore the importance of integrating sustainability principles into humanitarian efforts. Our active participation helped forge connections with industry leaders and reinforced our commitment to sustainable practices.
Further supporting this direction, we enhanced our operational capabilities by upgrading our machinery and equipment to improve energy efficiency. These enhancements were critical in launching our new line of eco-friendly products, showcased at another significant event in our sector—the AidEx exhibition in Geneva. Our focus on innovation and our new core relief items served as tangible examples of our dedication to sustainability.
Our 2023 “Evolution” report captures these achievements and more, offering a comprehensive view of how we have aligned our practices with the United Nations Global Compact’s (UNGC) 10 Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This document serves as a testament to our commitment to transparency, collaboration, and engagement with our stakeholders, detailed through the Governance, People, Product, and Planet sections, using Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards for robust disclosure.
As we reflect on 2023, our achievements not only underscore our commitment to sustainability but also highlight our role in the broader evolution of the humanitarian sector towards greater environmental responsibility. At NRS Relief, we are proud to join our partners at the forefront of this transformation, championing solutions that meet the immediate needs of beneficiaries while promoting the long-term well-being of people and the planet.
Tips on How to Read the Report
The 2023 COP report “Evolution” includes clickable footers designed for easy navigation, guiding readers directly to related appendices and specific responses from the UNGC Questionnaire. This design allows stakeholders to seamlessly explore detailed insights into our operations and their connection to broader goals and targets. For instance, “UNGC Questionnaire: E 11, E 22” signifies that the page covers two questions from the Environment section of the online UNGC Questionnaire, providing efficient access to comprehensive insights within each specified domain.
