Sharing the joys of Ramadan with the community members of Peshawar
In the spirit of giving back to society, our Lahore-based charitable arm Bilqees Sarwar Foundation (BSF) is sharing the blessings of Ramadan by distributing 8,000 food packages among the vulnerable families in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Under Islamic culture, the observance of Ramadan, the most sacred month of the Islamic year, is a period of spiritual growth with the reflection of deeds. It is a month of introspection and servitude to Allah. It teaches Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice and empathy for the less fortunate and encourages the actions of generosity and charity.
As part of BSF’s annual Ramadan campaign, we distributed a total of 8,000 food parcels among the less privileged families in the suburbs of Peshawar to share the blessings of this holy month.
“We lend a hand to those who won’t be able to celebrate Ramadan with their loved ones by sharing these bundles of joy, which covers sufficient amount of basic food supplies for one family for the whole month.” – Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar, Chairwoman of BSF.
“This Ramadan, we decided to step outside of Lahore to reach out to the community members living in the remote areas of Pakistan, considering Peshawar as the less developed. We traveled 350 miles away from Lahore to help the ones most in need,” added Mrs. Sarwar.
Each Ramadan food package contains 10 kilograms of flour, three kilograms of sugar, three kilograms of ghee, two kilograms of lentils, 800 ml bottle of Rooh Afza syrup (concentrated fruits, herbs and vegetable extract), ½ kilogram of tea, five kilograms of rice and 1 kilogram of dates. Every year, during the Holy month of Ramadan, the Sarwar Family carries out their tradition of distributing food parcels among factory employees and the less fortunate community members in Lahore as a gesture of thanksgiving and their commitment to serve their community and beyond.
