At NRS Relief we respond to requests from many different emergency situations all over the world. Our shelters can provide temporary accommodation for a family, or be used as hospitals, remote offices, schools to meet various programmatic needs in emergency situations.

In 2020, we have seen the global pandemic present another scenario where our shelters have been requested. As COVID-19 stretches medical facilities in many countries, shelters can form field hospitals for safe and efficient triage and treatment of suspected cases when hospitals are at full capacity. Our LegendMedi, developed in response to the first Ebola outbreak in 2014, offers separate, easy-to-disinfect treatment and isolation rooms for screening and treatment of patients. The series of Huggy tents is a multipurpose shelter available in three different sizes to meet your requirements of storage, screening, isolation, and treatment of patients. The Rex Hall is not just a ‘Mobile Storage Unit’. In fact, being very a modular structure, a Rex Hall can serve several purposes, from storage of life saving cargo to a screening center. With a wide range of accessories, the MSU can become a fully equipped field hospital.    

Thanks to our clients, our shelter structures reach many countries and communities. Let’s take a look at different projects in which mobile storage units and multipurpose shelters have been used in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

 

Ethiopia

Tackling COVID-19 requires many precautions not only in healthcare services but also in protecting communities from outside risk. In Ethiopia, our Rex Hall MSUs were used in humanitarian operations at the border with Djibouti.

The Ministry of Transport in Ethiopia initiated the project to construct 4 MSUs that will serve as Covid-19 screening centers and waiting areas for truck drivers crossing at the border.

Nigeria

The Rex Hall structures have been used to create storage facilities for almost 10,000m3 of life-saving cargo. The cargo that is stored in the Rex Hall shelters allows various organizations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

New York City, the USA

Multipurpose tents were included as part of a 68-bed field hospital set up in New York’s Central Park by Samaritan’s Purse in partnership with Mount Sinai health System. Set up adjacent to Mount Sinai Hospital, the field hospital provided medical support to the overwhelmed healthcare facilities in the city.

Cremona, Italy

Our recent post mentioned another use of our multipurpose tents in the Samaritan’s Purse response in Northern Italy. They were the first international organization to provide emergency medical relief in the country. A total of 107 disaster response specialists worked at the Emergency Field Hospital, including medical personnel, water and sanitation specialists, logisticians, and other support personnel. 68 of the 107 were medical staff.

 

Our multipurpose tents have always been designed with various scenarios in mind. However, we are always prepared to adapt to new challenges. With diverse requirements all over the globe, it’s fantastic to see our structures being put to use in helping support those in need.
