NRS Relief Showcases the Viva Eco Tent at Aidex 2024
In today’s rapidly evolving humanitarian landscape, sustainability is essential. Humanitarian organisations are at the forefront, collaborating with manufacturers to develop sustainable solutions that meet the urgent needs of displaced communities while protecting the environment. Rising to this challenge, NRS Relief, a trusted manufacturer of shelters and core relief items, proudly presents its latest innovation: the Viva Eco Tent, debuting at AIDEX 2024 in Geneva.
Sustainability at the Core
The Viva Eco Tent is constructed using eco-friendly materials and follows sustainable design principles. Its body is crafted from eco-design tarpaulin, containing 15% recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), fully recyclable, supporting a circular economy. The fabric—a lightweight, strong polyethene weave—ensures the tent withstands harsh climates, from heavy rain to intense sun, all while meeting high safety standards. The tent is water-resistant, UV-stabilised, and fire-retardant.
Durable with a Low-Environmental Footprint
The Viva Eco Tent is engineered for extended use, lasting up to 50% longer than typical emergency shelters, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This durability minimises the carbon footprint associated with production and distribution. Its reduced weight and packing volume allow for efficient loading, lowering emissions and facilitating easier distribution. Sustainable packaging that avoids single-use plastics and offers potential for reuse further reinforces the eco-conscious approach.
Adaptability and Comfort
Adaptability is essential in addressing the varied conditions of displaced populations. The Viva Eco Tent provides a 23 m² layout that comfortably houses up to five people, meeting the humanitarian standard of 3.5 m² per individual. Its features, such as an inner tent with integrated groundsheet, help maintain a comfortable internal climate, reduce condensation, and allow for a stove setup in colder climates.
A Second Life for Components
NRS Relief’s commitment to sustainability continues through the second life of the Viva Eco Tent’s components. At the end of the life span, the components can be upcycled and used for a variety purposes, for example tent poles can support agricultural structures, the tarpaulin can provide ground cover or insulation, and smaller elements like zippers and ropes can be repurposed for essential repairs. This circular approach minimises waste and empowers communities to reuse materials, maximising the tent’s long-term impact.

About AidEx 2024
The AidEx 2024 theme, “Revitalising Humanitarian Assistance – How Do We Deliver Better Aid in Conflict-Affected Hot Spots?”, gathers key humanitarian industry stakeholders to discuss advancements in supply chain management, logistics, and sustainable product development. This evolving landscape highlights a shift toward product diversification with a focus on materials and items that are 100% recyclable and made from recycled materials. Initially seen in AidEx 2023 with items like water containers, eco-tarpaulins, and blankets, this approach has expanded to include sustainable shelters. The Viva Eco Tent exemplifies this shift, blending human welfare with environmental stewardship for a responsible, sustainable future.
